Cost guide
Wedding invitation cost in India: website vs paper vs video
Wedding invitation cost in India depends mostly on one number: how many families you invite. Printed cards are paid per card, so for 300 families typical spending runs from about ₹15,000 to ₹60,000, and boxed cards can cross ₹2 lakh. A video invite or a wedding website is one price however many people you send it to: roughly ₹3,000–15,000 for an animated video, and ₹999–2,499 for most invitation websites.
Below is the method, the typical ranges with their sources, three worked examples, and an honest list of pros and cons. All figures are estimates, not quotes.

The method: how to work out your own cost
You only need four numbers. This is exactly what our free invite cost estimator does, and you can change every figure in it:
- Printed cards = families × (price per card + delivery per card) + any one-time design fee.
- Video invitation = the one-time price. It is sent on WhatsApp, so delivery is free.
- Wedding website = the one-time price. Also shared on WhatsApp, with no per-guest cost.
Count families, not people: one card goes to one household. If you are not sure of your guest list yet, the wedding budget calculator helps you size it against the rest of the wedding.

A popular middle path: both
You do not have to pick one. They print a small number of cards for the mandir, grandparents and the closest relatives, and send a website or video to everyone else. For example, 40 mid-range cards with delivery (₹5,200) plus a ₹2,000 website comes to ₹7,200, and keeps the tradition of placing the first card before Lord Ganesh.
Honest pros and cons
Printed cards
Good
- Something elders can hold, keep and place in the mandir.
- Hand-delivering a card is a respectful, traditional way to invite.
- Works for guests who don't use smartphones.
Not so good
- Cost grows with every guest, plus courier and boxes.
- Printing takes weeks, and a mistake means a reprint.
- No RSVP, no map, and no way to update a changed time or venue.
Video invitations
Good
- Music and motion feel festive on WhatsApp.
- One price, whatever the number of guests.
- Easy to forward as a status or in family groups.
Not so good
- Cannot be changed once sent; a new time means a new video.
- No RSVP or tap-to-open map, and details are hard to find again later.
- Large files can be slow to download on weak connections.
Wedding invitation websites
Good
- One flat price for unlimited guests, shared on WhatsApp.
- RSVP, Google Maps for every venue and a page for each function.
- Details can be updated and everyone sees the latest version.
Not so good
- Nothing to hold; some elders still expect a card.
- Needs a phone with internet to open.
- Quality varies a lot between providers, so check a live demo first.
Costs people forget
- Reprints: a wrong date, a misspelt name or a changed venue on a printed card means printing again.
- Boxes and sweets: often more than the card itself when a mithai box goes with every invitation.
- Several functions: separate cards or inserts for mehendi, sangeet and reception add up. A website gives each function its own page at no extra cost.
- Time: days spent delivering cards across the city in the busiest weeks before the wedding.
How to choose
- Most guests on WhatsApp and a long programme of functions: a website saves the most.
- Many elders without smartphones: print a few cards for them and send a link to the rest.
- You only want something festive to forward and details will not change: a video can be enough.
- A formal, boxed invitation is part of your family tradition: budget for it, and still share a map link.
